TE ARA HIHIKO
Te Ara Hihiko — ‘The Creative Pathway’, was founded in 2012 by Jacob Scott and Jason Kendrick. They have refined a groundbreaking digital tool to produce large-scale modern expressions of traditional Māori carving—whakairo. With a commitment to environmental sustainability, they use locally sourced and re-used and recycled materials where possible.
Te Ara Hihiko is an exciting collaboration that takes an innovative approach to Māori artistry, creating distinct designs that communicate stories. Their work sits comfortably in public, corporate and private spaces.
"Our work is grounded in the art of whakairo that speaks to our collective history, culture, and spirituality. Each project is a journey, from the initial spark of an idea to the final unveiling, we craft designs in which every carved surface tells a story.
Our creative process is rooted in collaboration, bringing together unique talents, perspectives, and insights. We draw inspiration from the natural environment and cultural heritage, merging tradition with contemporary carving technology. Every finished piece connects us to our ancestors and invites viewers to engage with the narratives embedded in the artwork."
