LOOK AT ME
…I turned sixty a few weeks ago, and you don’t get to my age without losing things and I don’t mean your glasses and your phone; that’s a given. I mean bigger, different things: people, homes, animals… hopefully not dreams. And while this is often unspeakably hard, you learn to live with it, and it shapes who you are and what you do.
The things and people I have lost have made me appreciate, very keenly, how precious each moment is. And they have taught me to notice the enormous number of unfathomably beautiful, funny, and delightful things there are in this world of ours.
When I paint and what I paint, is my way of capturing this: the beauty, and also the love I feel for what I have lost. I paint from my heart. I paint because I love colour and shapes and the process.
I paint because I can’t imagine not painting.
