Muse gallery was founded in 2017 by Kaye and Richard Tollenaar. The initial aim was to make art accessible and to provide a space to showcase local artists alongside some of the best national talent. Since then it has become a creative hub for the surrounding Havelock North community as well as the wider Hawkes Bay region.

The gallery is divided into three distinct areas: Exhibition; Small Objects & Prints; Stockroom. The exhibition space, which is the main focus of the gallery, is curated by Kaye and changes monthly. It features new work by one or more of our stable of artists designed to inspire, and in some cases challenge, our market. The exhibition openings provide an opportunity for people to meet the artists over a glass of wine, and find out more about their practice.

Alongside the exhibition space, we have a display of collectible ceramics, prints, sculptures and handcrafted gift ideas. This space is designed to provide an affordable entry into art collecting and reduce any anxiety people might feel about visiting a dealer gallery.

The Stockroom is another way we make art accessible by allowing visitors to wander amongst a diverse collection of artwork. Visitors are encouraged to slide the storage racks out to discover hidden gems that may be just what they are looking for.
