ANNE STEPHENS

ANNE STEPHENS

Local artist Anne Stephens has had a far reaching career in the arts including interior design, a store window displays business, shop layouts, as well as styling shoots for advertising and magazines. Following her move to Hawkes Bay, Stephens spent a year at EIT where she completed a Diploma in Visual Arts and Design. Her time is now spent exploring and developing her own wide and varied art style from her home in Havelock North and overseas travel.

Stephens’ work speaks of the turmoil of the journey through life; always in motion, sometimes the highs and more often the lows. Her use of the grid provides a balancing counterpoint to the chaos of the heavily textured, impasto application of paint. Stephens’ often dark colour palette is relieved by the judicious use of earthy tones imparting an atmospheric and haunting quality to her work.
