PAST TIME
“In my exhibition “Past Time,” I refer to the “Proustian experience,” as explored in his book “In Search of Lost Time,” in which sensory experiences in the present can trigger memories of the past: the smell of a chlorine pool, the shade of a breezeblock wall in an older suburb, and the magical everyday seen through the scrim of the night, and for Proust, the taste of a Madeline.
Through the use of specific motifs, colour and paint application, I aim to capture the duality of the Proustian experience - the way that memories can be both vivid and intensely emotional, as well as hazy and elusive. The paintings in this exhibition range from vibrant and celebratory, to muted and evocative of nostalgia. I hope that the interplay between these two palettes will
create a rich and layered visual experience, encouraging viewers to reflect on their own memories and the ways in which they have shaped their lives.”
