MICKEY MOUSE GLOBE

An endearing and quirky scene of a young mother and baby in a home setting instantly powerful for many reasons. Her strapless bunched dress could possibly be a bedsheet and her playful Mickey Mouse shaped snow-globe hat looks like a source of entertainment or inspiration for her baby. In the background is a light-filled bedroom with an unmade bed which might signify what their morning has been like.....a slow start to the day without distraction and living in the moment?
The snow-globes are not your conventional scene with Christmas trees and Santa’s slay, but instead Einstein peers out through the glass and dictates the narrative. Is he a symbol of intellect embedded within the mother’s mind or does he reflect the mothers expectations of her newborn. Could Einstein be representing AI as a modern-day problem solving tool creating a seismic shift in paradigms.
The lounge wall outside the bedroom is evidence of a child’s artwork. The usual stuff including rainbows and stick figures. The artwork pales in comparison to the bedroom wall covered from floor to ceiling in grafitti. Obviously not a child’s work, one realises mother has created her own wallpaper using the workings of her critical thinking, and freedom of expression. The graffiti appears to be an illustration of thinking out loud like she is trying to find the answers to her own questions. I wanted this painting represents a defiance to modern day technology and the promotion of balance in personal choice, authenticity and the preservation of critical thinking.
