ALICE ROSE

ALICE ROSE

English artist, Alice Rose could draw before she studied ceramics. It was a traditional and technically oriented course where she gained experience in most methods of construction and learned the importance of functional design. Her background as a painter in commercial art, and sign writing trained her in the technique of creating 3dimensional illusion. In 2005, shortly after moving to New Zealand, Rose began making her trademark Mirage Vases.

Mirage vases arose from a drawing investigating form and pattern in light and dark. The vase explores the relationship between perspective and perception. By depicting a two dimensional image in three dimensional form, mirage vases appear to exist in a dimension of their very own. Being neither entirely two or three dimensional they seem to resist belonging to either.
