AIDA SMITH

AIDA SMITH

Aida Smith is an oil painter whose landscapes explore how home imprints itself on us, and the memories and personal histories that gather around places over time. She simplifies detail, softens edges, and works with a restrained palette to capture a sense of place that feels quiet and half-remembered.

A sustainability ethos sits at the centre of her practice, with a focus on minimising environmental impact. She works in professional oil paints, without the use of solvents or varnishes.

Smith's distinctive artistic language has gained recognition, earning finalist positions in both the 2025 National Contemporary Art Awards and the 2025 Molly Morpeth Canaday Award.

She lives and paints in Kaitoke, in the foothills of the Tararua Ranges outside Wellington.
