WINTER SHOW 2025

WINTER SHOW 2025

For the Winter Show this year renowned Auckland portrait photographer Jae Frew has delivered us three new artworks from his endangered native bird series. The subjects are taxidermy specimens, sourced from museums and private collections, each cleverly composed to suggest distinct personalities. The sturdy kauri and rimu frames complement the portraits perfectly, and are hand-made by Frew, who learnt the skill from his father. They are a nod to colonial times and museum style displays that situate the works in the context of current debates.

Also exhibiting is floral landscape painter Anna Evans who has painted three large-scale works for the show. Evans graduated with a degree in fine arts from Elam in 2005, although she originally hails from Rochdale, Manchester in the UK.  She describes her arrival in New Zealand as a youngster after the grey of her homeland as an assault on the senses. The experience sparked a life long fascination with natural colours, light and and eco-systems. Her beautiful landscapes are a joy to behold; as intense and layered as a rich floral tapestry.
