THOMAS BARTER
Auckland-based artist Tom Barter is celebrated for his glass sculptures that bring natural icons and origami-inspired forms to life. Recently, he has introduced a series inspired by origami, where he transforms paper-folded forms into enduring glass sculptures. Using intricate lost-wax casting, he reimagines paper planes, cranes, butterflies, and other origami shapes in luminous glass. The cranes, symbolizing hope, are especially resonant, embodying the tradition of origami as a healing practice. A BFA graduate from CSU Humboldt in the USA, Barter now works from his Auckland studio, exhibiting in select New Zealand galleries.
