MANUAL OF DEXTERITIES 26 JAN – 22 FEB 2020
WELLESLEY BINDING
Here are some facts:
Summer. Smaller home studio. Trees. Privacy. Routine.
Morning walk with Carlo. Greens. Shapes. Angles. Habitation. Structures. Tones.
50 year old vinyl through hand-made pre-amp (back when).
Invent carelessly brushed ‘abstract’ spaces. Spray into uncontrol.
Put in figures/parts of figures. Don’t compose: Deploy.
Figures, clothing folds, hands, shoes tonally eked out of nothing, going into nothing: small dexterities.
See what they do. Doing nothing. Doing something. Collage by dissolve.
Have a painted world grow around them. Make the square work. Make the rectangle work.
Carry out instructions like ‘ two heads tone over’, ‘acronyms around drone’. But disobey.
Give themselves important names that suggest that they know what they are doing.
That I know what they are doing. That their biggest problem is being in a painting by me.
