PREVIEW: COMMON GROUND - IN THE STUDIO WITH JOSH LANCASTER
This is Josh Lancaster’s third solo show with Muse. His previous two exhibitions, The Beaten Path, 2021 and The Road To Waimarama, 2022, both sold out. What makes his work so popular is his landscapes often capture the geography of the heart - the places we call ‘ours’, which define who we are and where we are from.
Josh’s paintings often blur the lines between reality and memory, inviting the viewer to reflect on their own connection to the land. His artistic style is both calming and thought-provoking, encouraging us to slow down and appreciate the beauty in our everyday surroundings.
“Common Ground, In The Studio With Josh Lancaster”, showcases the artist’s unique ability to transform everyday scenes into profound reflections on belonging and connection. Familiar roadside views, rolling hills, and faded woolsheds reveal the beauty he finds in the ordinary. His landscapes explore a sense of identity, belonging and home.
Josh has moved his studio to the gallery for the first two weeks of the exhibition to coincide with the HB Art Trail, 2-3 November and 9-10 November. This will give those visiting during that time a unique opportunity to see the artist at work and discuss his process and inspiration.
