MY MUSE - TOM ARMSTRONG

Muse: Where does your inspiration come from?
Tom: Muse has been the personification of the intangible, but I think a lot has to be said for what comes out of working, and what has gone before.

Muse: Why do you use painting as a means to carry your ideas rather than another art form?
Tom: How we translate our experience of the world into two dimensions is of great interest. The paintings have some interesting frames.

Muse: Are they something you have made yourself?
Tom: Yes, they are a bit of a take on the ornate frames of the past. Mmmmm.

Muse: Where does the title for this group of paintings at Muse Gallery come from, Tom? Tom: Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is from James Joyce. I'm thinking of the artist as a stand-in for the everyman.
